Ten hikers by everyone’s tally
A hot day in July we did rally
Hoggs Falls left behind
We knew Pat would find
Us trailing the West Beaver Valley.
The trail revealed its delights
Bumbling brooks, limestone rocks, dappled light
With so much to see
Twas there that at the T
We turned left but should have turned right.
Through forest and meadow we walked
We sang, heard birds and we talked
No slashes of white???
We realized our plight!!
So far from the trail, we were shocked!
“How ‘bout lunch in the A/C today?”
A most generous Limey did say.
We found ourselves then
‘round a table for ten
Twas a cooling comfort. Oh, let me stay!
The cottage (a beauty!) did show
Some views of the valley below.
As we ate at the table
We read out the cable
A Limerick from Inga, Ho, Ho!
Twas then we determined to twiddle
Our plans for a car in the middle
We leapfrogged the van
Thus changing our plan
We’d finish on top of the ski hill.
This our hottest hike yet, I suppose.
Had a hiker in need of repose.
Additional drink
’n nutrition, I think
Was in order before she arose.
Logistics did change for this reason
To the base of the lift, for some ease then.
The Club was well signed
We were grateful to find
Their roads open in this summer season
Encounters with things unexpected
Plans made may then be rejected.
If cell phones are charged,
Communication ’s enlarged
And no one is left on the ski hill.
Be it winter or June or September,
We Limeys resolve to remember
The lessons we’ve learned
A wisdom that’s earned
As we trail along, End-to-Enders.
